Heartscape, installed in summer 2026, is a permanent piece of public artwork that welcomes visitors to Columbus Commons.
Created by Ohio-native artist Mark Reigelman, this sculpture reimagines the park’s High Street entrance as a distinctive gateway into one of Downtown’s most beloved public spaces.
Inspired by the heart-shaped leaf of Ohio’s Eastern redbud tree, the oversized steel sculpture celebrates the connection between nature and city life. Its intricate cut pattern draws from the geometry of Downtown Columbus’ street grid, creating a work that is both rooted in place and unmistakably contemporary.
Public art is always a collaborative effort, thank you to all who made this original sculpture a reality:

Columbus Commons has partnered with Solid Wate Authority of Central Ohio (SWACO) to install four food waste drop off units at the park.
As the first food waste collection units in Downtown Columbus, they will give residents and visitors a free, accessible way to divert food scraps from the landfill.
Stay tuned for installation and location details, as well as a “how-to” breakdown for composting rules.
