Winans bringing coffee and chocolates - and wine - to Columbus Commons

Winans Chocolates and Coffees is coming to downtown Columbus.

The Piqua-based chocolatier and coffee roaster is adding to its existing network with new shops in Columbus, Springfield and Wapakoneta.

Winans owner Joe Reiser said via email the Columbus Commons shop, set to open in February or March, will also stock wine in addition to coffee and chocolates.

Reiser said he is studying for his Italian Wine Professional certification and has obtained Level 1 Sommelier status, adding the study of wine, chocolate and coffee "all have very interesting similarities."

Winans is also planning to open a location in downtown Wapakoneta, between Lima and Sidney. Reiser said the location will be in a historic building on Main Street with a patio overlooking the river. It will be a first location with a new franchise owner who is currently a Winans employee.

The Springfield store is set to open at 32 N. Fountain Ave. and franchise owners Chandi Shah and Travis Van Voorhis are aiming to open the first week in November, said Courtney Denning, social media manager and tour director for Winans.

The growing company has five corporate stores in Miami County, six franchise locations in the Dayton area, two in Central Ohio and one in Iowa run by a transplant from Piqua. Other recent moves include a new store in Washington Township and the relocation of its headquarters and operations to 310 Spring St. in downtown Piqua.
