Meet our Storytelling Superhero: Sherry Huston

She can find your favorite read at breakneck speed and recite dozens of children’s rhymes in no time; Sherry Huston is an undercover superhero and the Commons’ resident storyteller. Every week at Commons for Kids, Huston engages audiences of all ages with performances of children’s books like Dino Bites by Algy Craig Hall and The Wide-Mouthed Frog by Keith Faulkner.

A 29-year veteran of the Columbus Metropolitan Library, Huston knows all the tricks for brining story time to life. Her favorite storytelling tool? Puppets!

Huston says “I’m a strong believer in the power of puppets! I use puppets to introduce the theme, to act out songs, rhymes and stories and to help me tell jokes.”

Even if your child hasn’t quite caught the reading bug, there are many ways to help spark their interest. Huston suggests reading with your child every day, letting them see you reading for pleasure and checking out a variety of books from your local branch of the Columbus Metropolitan Library. While you’re there, be sure to sign your child up for the library’s Summer Reading Club!  You can also sign up online here.

Catch her lively renditions of children’s stories during Commons for Kids on Fridays at 10:30 and 10:40 am.
