Five Fitness Tips for Summer

Stay in shape while fitness classes are on break.

Although the first session of free fitness classes has come to a close, there are still plenty of ways to get your exercise. Check out these tips from UnitedHealthcare on how you can stay in a healthy routine until fitness classes return on August 3.

  1. Step to it. Staying fit doesn’t require spending hours in the gym, it can be as easy as going for a walk. Walking can help tone your muscles, reduce stress and tension, increase your energy level and even reduce the risk of certain health conditions, such as high blood pressure. A loop around the Commons is 1/3 of a mile, do it three times and you’ve put in a mile!
  2. All it takes is 10. Check out this quick, 10 minute at home boot camp featuring moves like the superman, couch step-ups and “girl” pushups. This is a perfect routine for busy moms on the go.
  3. Be a kid again. Don’t just watch the kids having a blast, join the fun! The Commons is stocked with plenty of activities for all ages. Come throw a football or Frisbee, kick around a soccer ball or grab a jump rope and see how long you can keep hopping. Check out our open play hours here.
  4. Workday Workout. Glazed eyes? Tense muscles? Feel like you’ve been at your desk for days? This quick workout is designed to clear the mind and stretch the body. All you need is five minutes and a chair.
  5. Dance into better health. When a work out sounds like just that, work, try adding a little fun to your fitness by dancing. Check out some of these fun dance videos aimed at making your exercise enjoyable.
