Lexi takes on over 250 events!

A native of Bexley, Lexi Broderick remembers the days when City Center used to be the hub of Downtown Columbus. When buzz began to swirl about the newly-built Columbus Commons, her ears perked up and she jumped at the opportunity to join the team. Now the fearless Columbus Commons Special Events Manager, Lexi manages a team of six summer events staff members and helps execute both Columbus Commons-sponsored events and external events held at the Commons throughout the year. Not unexpectedly, Lexi describes her role at the Commons as “wearing many hats.” Some days she’s managing her staff to pull off yet another great day of Commons for Kids, and the next day she’s working in concert with Pelotonia staff to help them execute their opening ceremony at Columbus Commons.

A one-year veteran of the Commons, Lexi has over 230 events under her belt. And she’s making it a priority to learn from her first year at the Commons. In the “off-season” – what the Commons team calls the months between Holiday Fair and the first spring-time events – Lexi has helped to ensure that this season’s programming is engaging to a wide and diverse audience by incorporating lessons learned from successes and hiccups last year.

When asked what her favorite events are, without blinking she responded, “Downtown Live!” Followed quickly by, “It means a lot to have local music at the Commons and now it’s combined with our new Pints & Pies happy hour that features local breweries and small local bands.” She continues, “It’s really important to promote Ohio and Columbus and I like being involved with that.” Lexi’s also looking forward to working with Pelotonia and Picnic with the Pops again this year. She points out that the Bicentennial Pavilion was built to accommodate the Columbus Symphony’s annual event and that on a summer evening it’s wonderful to take in some beautiful music at the Commons. We couldn’t agree more.

Ultimately, Lexi describes her first year at the Commons as “extremely exciting!” Her second year, with over 250 events, is undoubtedly going to be just as exciting, if not more. If you swing by the Commons this summer for one of those events you’ll likely see Lexi and the events staff, who you can spot in their green polos featuring the Columbus Commons logo, setting up activities and helping out park patrons.
